Snake bite kit

I am a common hiker. I have the Wal-Mart brand Snake Bite Kit . The Kit includes a scalpel, a thin rope, and "universal anti-venom." Is this really going to help me if I receive a bite and not close to a hospital/rescue or do I have a better chance with first aid?

Tex,

The next time you post a question without using the search button you'll need to enter the witness protection program.

Don't post again without using the "SEARCH" button....

Slow down

Tex,

I would go fast in your Suuped-up Firebird and slow down on the posts here! Try the following guidlines:

1) Read more
2) Use the search button
3) If you are sure you cannot find the info you are looking for, prepare a post
4) Proofread it for content, spelling, and grammar
5) Preview it
6) Think it over one more time
7) Submit

This is called internal validation or a personal "murder board" and will keep you out of trouble here and later on if you achieve your goal of being SF.

Just my .02.

Perhaps you might use a piece of this thin rope to tie a knot round your finger to remind you to use the Search Engine least you get bit by the cyber snake again, and again, and again.

Tex,
Always carry a cell or satellite phone, don't take any antivenom that isn't given by a health care provider that knows enough to save your life, not end it, do not cut any part of it, do not suck any part of it, try to identify the snake which will help the hospital determine if you even need to be treated with cro-fab or another type of 'antivenom', consult a wilderness survival book written by either Paul Auerbach or the US Army, and last but not least: knowledge before hiking of the potential critters is worth more that the boots you hike in, i.e., avoid the problem to reduce the risk of a bite, don't play with snakes and if I can get my new computer to retrieve all of my 1000's of pictures I'll post what your extremity might look like if you do end up on the wrong side of fangs.

ss

BTW, return the kit to Walmart.......it won't help.

You'd probably get more good out of watching Venom ER on the Animal Planet channel than bying stuff in a store. They've shown some really nice stuff that people have done after they were bitten by a snake that did more damage than the snake did.
