Meanest mom on the planet
An ad was placed in the Des Moines Classifieds by this Iowa mother about a week ago that actually gives me hope.
The ad reads, "OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don't love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet."

Being a mom is not a popularity contest. I would rather be the meanest mom to a good and safe kid than the coolest mom to a dope head drop out.

This 19 year old that still lives with his "mom" should take heart and rejoice in the fact he's not my son.
Then again, if he was my son, he'd never been caught in the first place.

She Stole My Title
Man, I thought I was the meanest mom/stepmom. All my kids tell me this all the time. I guess that comes from taking away all the fun stuff ie phones, stereos, game boys, tvs, etc if they don't maintain a B grade point average. Or the fact that I am the only mom they know that (gasp) makes them do their own laundry and clean their nasty bathroom on a weekly basis, plus do dishes, empty the dish washer and vacuum.. "All my friend's moms do it for them, why are you being so mean?" The best is when my step kids are offended that I am being their stepmom and not their best friend like their mom is.
Thank God for all the Meanest Mom's out there, especially my own who is truly the MEANEST MOM IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!!! She taught me what a realy mom is, and I thank the Lord every day for her.

Some times stuff like this makes me shake my head. 20 or 30 years ago a parent selling a kids car because of irresponsible behavior wouldn't have been considered an act of great parenting, or at least where I grew up. Don't get me wrong, I think that the mother did the right thing, but it's just a shame that what was once considered good parenting is now so unheard of that it merits being put in the local newspaper.

When the kid grows up, and has kids of his own he will thank his mom for being such a good parent! These kids nowadays need a swift kick in the ass. I am a stepfather of a 18, 21 and 24 year old. And like said above their mother is more of their best friend wich really pisses me off. I was not raised like this, there were strict rules and chores when I grew up in my parents household, and I look back knowing now why this was necassary.

One of the biggest problems is your kids see what other parents/parent let their kids get away with. We have 17 and 13 year old teenage boys. Just like any teenager they will challenge you. But they also know where we draw the line. We are blessed because they are good kids. I just shake my head seeing what some parents let their kids get away with. No limits set, no accountability, shitty grades. Like I tell my sons we are your parents, not your best friends. We are here to give you direction, advise and love

My parents rules for the boys were....
"As soon as you graduate HS! You have through the summer to find a place too live." 
BTW...I kinda "feared" mommy's wrath.
