Hog Hunting
This is what we load for my son for hogs. Barnes TSX 200gr. We load this bullet over 72gr of 4350 for his .300 WinMag.

Fantastic bullets, deadly on anything from elephant down in the right calibre. With the rings, they don't foul the barrel with copper any more either.

Guy- My son took a 250Lb boar at 302 yards with this load. Very accurate, hits a ton and maintains its mass. We found the bullet, it expanded perfectly.

That bullet was still moving quite fast. Any meat damage?

That Win Mag is quick. I have seen other bullets disintegrate just leaving a flesh wound at closer ranges. Of course you are much more confident with a flat shooting round like that at distances over 300 yds. My .375H&H has a howitzer trajectory compared to the Win Mag, but if you do happen to hit something at 300, there will be very little meat damage, if any. I find with the big and slow 300gr bullet, I can aim just behind the shoulder and the animal will generally drop on the spot with just a little in and out hole through the ribs. The Barnes is the business in that respect.

How does it compare to the Remington Hog Hammer? Same bullet, more powder?

RL- Haven't used the Hog Hammer. We also use this bullet in 140gr for my M70 in .270 and 168 gr for all of our .308's.

It looks like Remington use exactly the same Barnes TSX bullet in their Hog Hammer as Mark uses. I expect the powder load is similar too. You don't need to overcook the Barnes to get the desired performance from the bullet.

I was talking with my best friends son today. He knows a farmer upstate that has deer and hog issues on his property. He has given him permission to hunt on his land. Buddys son says there are hog all over the place, and since it is private property, you can bait them. He has already taken several hogs. Anyway he invited me to go with him when the weather cools down some. Its about an hour ride, but the closest hunting to me is at least a half hour/45 minutes anyway.
Ive been out a couple times the last few years, and have really enjoyed the outings, but have yet to bag anything except a bucket full of mosquitoes. I would like to put at least one small to medium sized hog in my freezer. It will be nice to go somewhere that doesnt have everybody and their dog hunting, like it is in the Wildlife Management Areas I normally hunt.
