Your second link shows a black cat under canopy under the heading, "Paratroopers." This was originally the insignia of the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment. The 2nd Bn, 503rd was sent to England in 1942 to train with the British 1st Airborne Div. they then participated in the first U.S. airborne operation of the war, Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa. While the Bn. was in flight to North Africa, it was redesignated the 509th Parachute Infantry Bn. The below insignia is my motheaten British-made example of a Disney design. While it is fact a 503rd patch, it is a defacto 509th insignia.
