Some numbers just for shits and giggles...

Approx. US population 1861-1865 = 32,000,000

Approx. # of casualties during Civil War = 650,000 (deaths only - not including maiming, blind, brain damage, lost limbs, etc., etc.,)

= approx 2% of total population killed.

Fast forward...

Approx. US population 2020 = 331,000,000

Applying approximately the same percentage of death from Civil War to current population suggests approx. 6,723,437 deaths.

Almost 7 million dead...that should horrify all level-headed folks. The level of destruction from a protracted conflict would be disastrous.

As I’ve said before, we (the USA) are not somehow magically immune from these types of violent and tragic events.

Our political leaders must cool down the current divisive, identity politics, tribal grievance culture, environment fast - and fix this tinder-box (maybe even total war) bullshit we find ourselves in.

Yes. The violence has begun but at such a relatively low level intensity that there is time for cooler heads to prevail and to stem the bloodshed. But, as others point out...that window is closing pretty fast.

Concur with ODNT that this November election will be a crucial fork in the road event.
