I’ve got news for you… a lack of federally funded abortion doesn’t make you a first or second class citizen, it doesn’t make you anything but pregnant. If you feel that you can’t practice safe sex in the military and not get pregnant maybe you shouldn’t have sex. If having unprotected sex leads to an STD, unwanted pregnancy or other possibly life changing consequences maybe you should consider some of the many provided free alternatives to birth control. Yes, Virginia the military still provides many different types of birth control, from drugs, intrauterine devices, to under the skin long term devices and education on how to avoid an unwanted pregnancy. It won’t stop you from getting an STD, but that’s a risk you assume when you jump in the sack with a man who while wearing a condom (maybe) may still cause an unwanted pregnancy. Depending on the state you are stationed in, your home state (take leave and go home), or the conditions of your OCONUS deployment you may be able to get an abortion, request the “Plan B” abortion pill, or travel to Europe where women are still allowed to use the socialist medical system for abortion as birth control, sex selection, or to terminate a pregnancy for any reason. If by chance you are in the Middle East, Far East, Central America or South America… you are a second class person and while those services might be found and are available, you assume all risk for the outcome of the procedure up to and including death due to complications.
If you are still confused as to your obligations to serve in the United States Military, your Oath of Enlistment, the U.S. Constitution, or the status of your citizenship you have more issues than the recent overturning of an unconstitutional opinion issued in 1973 that made abortion a medical option funded and paid for using U.S. tax dollars.
Yes, Virginia, you can still get an abortion depending on the state laws in the state you choose to reside in… you are free to move! ETA: pregnancy is choice, abortion is consequence unless medically necessary in which case nothing has changed.
