General Information about the AOR

Most of Africa is part of the area of responsibility of the U.S. European Command. Several African countries, however, are included in U.S. Central Command's AOR, and a few island states of the Indian Ocean, though conventionally included with Africa, are in U.S. Pacific Command's AOR.

The Africa AOR includes the following countries:
  • Algeria
  • Angola
  • Benin
  • Botswana
  • Burkina Faso
  • Burundi
  • Cameroon
  • Cape Verde
  • Central African Republic
  • Chad
  • Congo
  • Cote D'Ivoire
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • Gabon
  • The Gambia
  • Ghana
  • Guinea
  • Guinea-Bissau
  • Lesotho
  • Liberia
  • Libya
  • Malawi
  • Mali
  • Mauritania
  • Morocco
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • Niger
  • Nigeria
  • Rwanda
  • Sao Tome and Principe
  • Senegal
  • Sierra Leone
  • South Africa
  • Swaziland
  • Tanzania
  • Togo
  • Tunisia
  • Uganda
  • Zambia
  • Zimbabwe
The region also includes the Western Sahara, currently controlled by Morocco. Western Sahara's legal status remains unresolved.

Included under "Asia" as they fall under PACOM's AOR are the Comoros, Madagascar and Mauritius. All are Indian Ocean states, but are members of the African Union.

The African countries included under "Middle East" as they fall under CENTCOM's AOR are Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and The Sudan. The Indian Ocean state of The Seychelles is also included there.
