Schutzhund73, my personal experience with polarized glasses, (and as I am about the furthest you could get from SF while still remaining in the human race, take it for what it is worth) is that they significantly cut down on glare.
Coming from a relatively hot, glarey country such as Oz it is noticably more comfortable wearing polarized glasses, and much easier to make out distant objects without squinting against the glare. I also find that on days where the glare is intense, the polarized glasses will stop you from getting headaches - lack of squinting=looser facial muscles.
I would assume that for SF people it may be a tad more vital to be able to cut through glare, but am very interested if that has been their experience.
