Eddie Albert

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,157964,00.html

Eddie Albert served as a coxwain on a Higgens Boat in WWII and earned the Bronze Star at Tarawa. His was one of the few boats that cleared the reef, AND not be destroyed. He made several runs dangerously close to the pier, once even pulling up alonside to offer some Marines a ride to the beach. The Marines in question declined, but asked him for some ammo. Albert found some ammunition for their machine gun and returned to the pier to find the Marine position destroyed. Albert also evacuated dozens of seriously wounded Marines from the beach, transfering them to other boats that were unable to clear the reef, undoubtably saving several lives.

RIP Sailor! Semper Fi!
