I cannot speak for all of the groups as I have only been here in 1-10 but based on my experience the maroon beret is worn by all personnel assigned to the unit whether airborne qualified or not. Nobody here wears the tan beret even if they are ranger qualified and just came from bat. My junior ops SGT was in combat with the 3rd ranger bat in Astan and he wears the red beret. Our weather team guys do wear a funky looking grayish beret but they are the only ones that "do their own thing." Perhaps one of the QPs from the other groups has a different experience?
