Titania,
The first thing you have to do is join the Army. Cherry picking "studies" do not show what is like in the Army. Studies are academic, the Army is real.
We were doing ops with ~120 lbs rucks, on top of the other equipment. Well one night a MP Company Commander was in the Team Room drinking with us, she was a smart and sharp lady. She wanted to send a female E4 out with us. After drinking for about an hour she needed to use the latrine so I escorted her down stairs to the loo. On our trip back I said, "Ok, I've been shot, carry me back to the Team Room." She made it about 15 meters, stopping before the stairs. I then asked her, how the E4 was going to carry her 120 lb ruck and a wounded teammate or her ruck and the teammate's 120 lb ruck? She said, "she can't."
A few of those ops were 3-weeks long. On one I was in a hide-site 21 days. You cannot leave the hide-site for anything; how is that going to work out for you?
The unit recruits almost all of their operators from the Rangers or SF. So join the Army, go the the Rangers, then go to SF, then reassess what you want to do.
