I’m of two minds about this:
1) Nobel Prize recipient Dr Luc Montagnier has had a lot of professional success, but also a lot of controversy about his research and methodology over time.
If the criticism of Dr Montagnier was only very recent that would be a huge red flag against his critics, but criticism has followed him for well over a decade.
2) Kubler-Ross
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance
History has proven that validation often only happens after the originator of a theory has been tarred, feathered, and thrown in the furnace.

It is absolutely maddening to see so many people conveniently walking back their demonisation of anyone who suggested investigation into a lab leak as the point of origin, until we had a new administration.
It is a truly literal example of cutting off your nose to spite your face.
