It might be useful for DC and the “elites” to recognize that the colonists equated a lack of representation with a lack of consent to be ruled. People on the ground generally have the same gripes. Recall where this led.

Are there millions now who perceive a lack of representation ?

The apparently tone deaf victors of the last presidential election may be pushing the nation to a place that it does not want to go...or is this exactly where they wish to push ?

Would addressing this perceived lack of representation by the “elites” turn down the burner a bit to a slow simmer ?
