MICC Soldier earns 2020 Black Engineer of the Year award

Legitimate question? I have always had a lot of pride having been an Engineer, it started even before the indoctrination as a Combat Engineer in Basic / AIT at Ft Leonard Wood, Airborne School and the Q Course and on to the 19th. Essayons was drilled into our heads... They instilled a lot of Pride in us, didn’t matter who was to the left or the right of you as all the units I ever experienced were about buddies, squads/ teams, platoons, companies, Battalions/Groups and Regiments. Granted, that was many years ago and even I sometimes reread my posts and recognizes I can be somewhat naive, but did I miss something? Is this what the Army has come to? Are soldiers awarded merit based on something other than performance? Have I missed something in my interpretation of this Army Times article?
