It's a bitter sweet one, but avatar dog gets another couple of days to live. Just a week ago my wife found a lump next to his anus. We made an appointment with the vet for this afternoon. On Friday it bust through the skin and was much larger so Saturday we called an scheduled euthanasia for the old guy, he's 11 and a half. It was for today but just an hour before we were to leave a huge thunderstorm developed over our house. Pretty much only here and maybe our nearest neighbor a mile away. We quickly got half an inch and the wash at the highway was flooded. We rescheduled for Wednesday. He not suffering but it does seem to be pressing on his left leg nerve. I don't want to put him through surgery that he might not survive anyway and is too old to recover from. And I don't want to wait until he is suffering.
We've had 3 Akitas in 35 years. The first had the same problem at 10 and had to be put down. The second was 13 and got bloat. She was too old for surgery. So, since the average life span for Akitas is 10 years, we've done pretty well.
