CDC continues to get in the billions per year to study a variety of societal ills, as well as those diseases which - while not really prevalent and relative to OUR security - "appear" to afflict traditional underdogs. They are very good at marketing and so they get to look, and politicians who vote for their appropriations get to look, extremely virtuous.
