The concept of 'deep fakes' is nothing new. Since the first dancing baby Gif back in the 80's people have been playing around with digital manipulation.
Imagine if someone with a pirated copy off photoshop got their hands on a few nude photos from a Hustler Magazine and coupled them with Jennifer Anniston's head.....

We don't even really need "deepfake" technology in this country anymore. Even worse than deep fake technology is the widely available and FAR more dangerous threat:
"The Weaponized Dumb-Ass".
Deepfae technology is only going to get better and cheaper and easier to produce but weaponized dumbasses simply will not evolve. Deepfake technology certainly can contribute to a wildly dystopian future - but only at the hands of a society that welcomes and embraces the hype and fearmongering - for example...
Imagine a virus - a virus SO DANGEROUS AND DEADLY that you have to be tested and then told ten days later that you have that virus in order to know even know you are "sick".
Them imagine a news media that will run video footage of a small hospital in Italy and tell people it is actually a giant hospital in New York that is collapsing in on itself from the overcrowded rush of people with that very same deadly virus.
Then imagine a political party that will praise them for doing it.
Then tell me again why I need to fear a 'deepfake' of some contrived scandal to destroy my life when politicians are doing more damage by just standing at a podium and lying to me about......

How many deepfake videos did it take to convince hundreds of millions of Americans that they needed to hide in their homes for six months - and that they would die if they didn't wear a surgical mask when they went to Walmart to buy another 3-liter jug of Carlo Rossi.
Let's revisit the photos of Rachel Green having a threesome with the Porno-Yoda twins; we all know some weapons-grade dumb ass that will swear those photos are real. Imagine if a Ren and Stimpy quality video edit surfaced that showed what appeared to be grainy images of President Trump giving a handful of cash to Putin. The real threat comes from the simple-minded folks that will watch an entire speech - but then wait for George Snuffalupagus to spin what they just heard with their own ears because they arent really sure of what they just heard.
Deepfakes aren't going to wreak havoc on our dystopian social experiment - we wreak enough havoc upon ourselves every day by letting real people show us real footage and tell us real lies...
