Our 1st mission was to sweep a small village (10-15 families). Something we had never had to do. Up to that point we had operated in a completely non-populated area with only one ROE, "win all firefights, cause maximum damage".
Additionally, We had operated in dense tripple canopy jungle, this village was surrounded by open rice paddies.
I was not a happy camper. I had a heartfelt father/son discussion with my troops.
Time in the village about 1.5 hrs, cleared all buildings. A couple of old AK's found with rusted mags and dirty ammo. The elders said they were for Tiger protection so we left then. (hearts-n-minds)
