I understood Haidt's distinction between liberal and conservative to be on a different axis than the distinction between statist and libertarian.
While liberals currently tend towards statism, it isn't the same thing.
Leftists are a whole different creature, and while they claim to be liberals, they're not.
Real liberals do exist, but they do tend to suffer from the inability to comprehend economics.
Conservatives are battling leftists pretending to be liberals.
