Liberals and conservatives each have a different basis for their morality.
Jonathan Haidt did research and reduced morality to five identifiable elements.
He determined the difference between conservative and liberals concerning which elements they value.
1) Care for Others/Do no harm
2) Fairness/Justice/Equality
3) In-Group Loyalty
4) Respect for Authority
5) Purity/Sanctity
Conservatives value all five roughly equally.
Liberals primarily value 1 and 2.
Basically, conservatives have a God based morality (due to valuing 4 and 5), and liberals have a godless morality (not valuing 4 and 5).
This is also why conservatives basically understand liberals, but liberals don't understand conservatives (both groups value 1 and 2).
