I just finished listening to a very informative podcast regarding what an experienced back country hunter is packing for his upcoming elk hunting trip.
Yanis Putelis and Steven Rinella spend almost 2 hours going through each item that Yanis has in his pack, the advantages, the disadvantages etc...
The discussion is probably more generally applicable, but I put it here as it is geared toward a fur hunting trip.
