ODNT, sir, I agree. I'm a fire Captain and have my degree in Emergency Management, so know that there are legal limits on the use of US military, stateside; however, I would love to see the power of our military used to save our own people. FEMA and its resources are certainly stretched thin and local emergency resources will be overwhelmed, quickly. My department is 600 miles north of Houston and we have several assets helping with rescues and recovery there.

You are spot-on, too, that we have created much of our own misery. We live in places not suited to habitation (most often the poor, because it's cheaper or the rich, because they can). Some of the misery in Houston could have been prevented if government and insurance didn't under-write construction of homes in, otherwise, hazardous locations.

My prayers are with any and all of you that may be affected.
