At Houston MEPS while I was in-processing, I found myself sitting in front of the doctor (an old Korean era Navy vet) for the physical exam. He looked at my paper work and said, "another one of you." I asked him what he meant by that. He said that since 9/11 he'd seen a ton of prior-service guys, mostly infantry types, who were leaving behind good jobs and families to go back in. He said many of them had been out for many years, had gone to college, etc, and were just wanting to go back to their old units. He said it was one of the most moving parts of his job to see that since 9/11, and that it made him feel better about the future of America. He was obviously both sincere, and emotionally moved.

LOL, and I'm sitting there in my boxer shorts thinking: don't let this dude ask for a shoulder to cry on.
