I read a story last week where a German court refused to try Don Rumsfeld for war crimes. Apparently, Germany has a law on the books that allows their court system to try war criminals regardless of where the conduct occurred.
Personally, I feel for the ex-pow's but isn't this case akin to trying to collect from a judgement from a dead mans extended family? The people and the government guilty of these crimes are no longer in a position of authority and the money that would be collected would come from at the expense of the Iraqi people who were not willing participants in the previous regime. On the other hand someone needs to be held accountable for those actions. No really easy answer here.
