Actually, the M1 Carbine far exceeds the 9mm and .357 Magnum ballistically.
M1 carbine: 1900fps and 964 lb-ft.
.357 Magnum (4"): ~1300fps and 600 ft-lbs
9mm (my load): 1100fps and 334 lb-ft
