A retired Special Forces 1st Sgt is very rare. Even rarer these days.

Prior to the 18 series a Medic, Commo Man or Engineer would make the 8 list - but in their career field. They would disappear off to the conventional Army and usually be placed in a 1SG position. After a few years they would retire or make the 9 list and maybe come back to SF. So if they retired as an E8 they would be able to call themselves a retired Special Forces 1SG.

There were a few SF 1SG positions which usually went to the weapons guys. Again they would either make the 9 list or retire as a 1SG.

Now with the 18 series 1SG positions are still limited counting the number of regular E8 positions out there. I'd say being a 1SG helps with selection to SGM. So once again a retired Special Forces 1st Sgt is rare.

Just my opinion of course.
