Language is not only how we communicate with each other, but how we learn and communicate with ourselves.
I had a girlfriend that had a neighbor that was French born but a naturalized American citizen. He was an interpreter at the French Consulate in L.A. He spoke 3 languages: French, English, and Spanish. He told us that he spoke in English, thought in French, and dreamed in Spanish.
Point being, in our heads, we talk to ourselves (think) in our primary language. If they change the words that we learned to think with, they can change the way we think and what we think.
Example: We had a Department of War from our founding until 1949 when they changed it to the Department of Defense. How did that change they way people think?
