Texas had many business ties to Iran under the Shah, and has a large Westernized and pro-American diasporal Iranian population who migrated to America after the 1979 revolution which brought the Ayatollahs to power and still maintain close family ties to their relatives in Iran.
In contrast, this killing in Houston brings back memories of the Egyptian born Irving father who killed his two teenage daughters in 2008 because they were becoming too Westernized and dating non-Muslim boys, bringing "dishonor" to the family. What sickness.
