I'm of the believe that as the US disengages from the role of 'global cop" it will continue to create voids/eddys in the wake of it's departure.
I reckon the US disengagement/departure works on a couple of levels. Physical departure from the regions in question, the physical reduction of total kinetic/non-kinetic force projection capabilities held in reserve, and the perceptual change by allies/adversaries due to said physical departure/reduction.
My concern is that the current combination of US foreign policy and defense cuts are creating a cascade of growing pockets of crisis and instability.
I like trying to use analogies and i'm left thinking about abscesses.
Abscesses that are neither drained nor packed.
If you don't have enough needles, antibiotics, and packing material combined with the appropriate diagnosis, treatment plan, and personnel to execute it, abscesses can become life threatening.
For some reason, I'm also thinking about Boyd's OODA Loop....but a "Bizarro World" OODA feedback loop working on reverse cycle.
