It is very real and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. No mater how pumped you are. It happens to some of the best freedivers in the world.
The schools in the Keys use to have open information "classes" on the topic of free diving and SWB. These were not formal classes,, but more of an FYI,, "be careful or DIE" info-mat. Mehgan Heaney-Grier, at one time, was very active in the safety sessions. One of our Keys friends lost their 15YO son to SWB.
