Just a heads up to anyone who doesn't know: Microsoft Security Essentials is built into all Windows 8 computers. That plus Malwarebytes should do the job for most people.
Edit: I forgot to mention, using Chrome or Firefox and installing an adblocker extension is a great way to filter out most of the junk that pops up on the internet that causes you problems.
