A running classic at Ft Campbell back in the late 80's was to send a new private down to Range Control and tell them to turn on the range safety fans on Range 50 for our training. The range control guys would send them to the Provost Marshall to get the proper form (DA-8008) who would send them back to the unit to make sure there was a PRC/E8, which ended in an ass chewing and automatic assignment to the range detail.
It was almost a rite of passage in 1/502 until we screwed it up by coming in as a COHORT platoon (28 newbies all at one time). Interestingly enough the guy that they ran it on out of our group was, I kid you not, PVT Lame. Great guy and ended up with the nickname "tiny".
