Race report. It was an interesting race, pretty technical with some fun elevation and a lot of roots. I raced 45+ and single speed both days. Day one 45+, flatted. I’d got gapped off the back of a group of 5 led by Jim Sullivan when I slid out in a turn. I spent a lap burning matches to catch back on. So I took a turn too fast, took out a wooden course stake by breaking it off at the bottom and then running it over with my rear wheel. I thought it was going flat but not sure so, I skipped the bike change at the pits. Ended up running most of the lap a 6:30 lap turned into a 13:40 lap. I run tubular on my geared bike. I think I that would have flatted any tire, clincher, tubular or tubeless. Finished 12 out of 20. Day one single speed, finished 2nd out of 5, two guys DNFd. Had the tire pressure just right at 35 lbs. I thought I bottomed out a couple times on my clinchers but didn’t pinch flat.
Second day 45+ felt like I was going flat so I switched to my single speed at the pits (lesson learned on Day 1, when in doubt swap it out). Next time around I swapped it back. The pit mechanic checked it and said it was OK. However, it felt like the rear tire was rolling out on the off camber sections, so I swapped again and rode my single speed for the last lap. Finished 16 out of 21. Day 2 Single Speed finished, 12 out of 20.
Anyway, here are a couple videos
This a video of Aiden Seay the son of Matt Seay a friend here at work. They came out Saturday to say Hi and check out the race. Aiden decided he wanted to race on Sunday. He finished the race and did awesome.
