WO1 Sean Mullen, former 18D, was killed here when his NTV struck an IED on 2 Jun. His team mates worked furiously for more than 40 minutes prior to DUSTOFF arriving in order to try and save his life. His injuries were too great and it was his time.
For the rest of the world, save for his friends (both here and back in the States) - and of course his family...his sacrifice somehow no longer rates even as below the fold, back page news.
A small blurb in a hometown paper. A mention of "US Soldier killed in Afghanistan" on the ticker under a well manicured anchorperson spewing meaningless minutes about some gay sports icon, Lindsay Lohan lunacy or Justin Bieber fashion trend.
This was a good man by all who knew him. A solid "dirty boots soldier" who did things the right way, the SF way.
If the Nation will no longer recognize it's true heroes then let us recognize, and honor, their memory.
Thank you for your service Sean. Rest well Brother.

Ain't no one getting out of this world alive. All you can do is try to have some choice in the way you go. Prepare yourself (and your affairs), and when your number is up, die on your feet fighting rather than on your knees. And make the SOBs pay dearly."
