Thanks for the post, definitely worth some thought.
Sure, guys like this have to be out there, I wonder what the official US take is on him. He returns home -- I'm guessing on his US passport (fake ones are easy to spot and good fakes hard to get) -- this cats not on a watch list? (Every time I go to the airport i have to prove I'm not the "dozer in the IRA"). No one there to meet him at PDX at least for a chat? I didn't see any overt threat to the US but just because we don't like the Syrian government doesn't mean we want this stuff. Why hasn't his citizenship been pulled? ( so he can at least have to look up when he hears a droning noise.)
I would imagine he is on a watch list and probably, if he returns to the US, will be getting a nice sit-down somewhere. As for restrictions he is fighting with a US recognized terror organization, but I think will have to prove he was doing anti-American attacks, etc. It seems clear that he has converted and is fighting a Jihad, but who knows his mentality against the US.

I think the best case scenario here would be for the US to gain as much intel off him possible. He calls home regularly etc, and hes a well known fighter. He'll get 'famous' and be all over the place making connections etc. He may eventually become a problem, but who knows.
