Editorial: Not Yet - Military leave policy needs a little elasticity

"The 82nd Airborne Division's new leave policy may be another of those unfortunate consequences of war. But convincing returning soldiers that this is "the best of both worlds" will be a hard sell. There isn't much "best" to savor.

Under the policy, nobody loses any leave. The requisite 10 to 14 days of on-post re-acclimation briefings aren't deducted from the 30-day annual entitlement. But the soldiers don't get to take their 30 days in one block. Instead, they get two weeks, with the balance to be made up later................."

This is just the 82nd's policy but about 2 weeks of leave was about all I could handle. Besides - I always liked to keep a few weeks in the bank - just in case.
