Here's a "real world" example of second and third order effects of these decisions:

Almost two years ago my son turned left into oncoming traffic while he still had his learner's permit. I was in the passenger seat. We were broadsided by a lady that had locked up her brakes prior to hitting us. Definitely our fault...we didn't event try to offer an excuse...just chalk it up to inexperience. ANYHOWS....a second vehicle hit that vehicle...going about 45 MPH, never hit the brakes, just slammed into the lady that hit us.

Turns out that driver was an illegal, no license, no insurance, no ID, nada...teen Mexican with no "formal" driving education. Driving a "friends car"...also illegal by the way. My insurance goes through the roof, because not only do I have to pay for the car that hit us, but we also have to pay for the illegals car because, "if we didn't cause the accident...he wouldn't have hit her." I argued...quite unsuccessfully, that if he wasn't here illegally...he wouldn't have hit her either...AND...if he had any kind of training...he might have at least tried to hit the brakes, swerved, not followed so close, etc.

Finally, to add insult to injury...last time my insurance bill came in...the rates for "uninsured/underinsured motorist" went up.

The kid got a ticket for having no license.
