Even if the president's critics establish definitively that his comments about the government's role in the invention of the internet are historically inaccurate, his supporters could still point to many other examples in which .GOV played a role in this nation's economic development.
Rather than getting mired in the history and historiography of this topic, I think the president's opposition could get more traction if it developed arguments that turned the president's comment on its head.
