Unexplainable, Inexcusable................
No one has been able to explain to me why young men... and women serve in the U.S. Military for 20 years, risking their lives protecting freedom, and only get 50% of their pay. While Politicians hold their political positions in the safe confines of the capital, protected by these same men and women, and receive full pay retirement after serving one term. It just does not make any sense.

Respectfully submitted,
Unexplainable, Inexcusable, and
Untrue.
Congresscritters and their staff are subject to one of the two Civil Service retirement systems. The old (and better one) that I am very familiar with, gives you 1.5% for each of your first 5 years and 1.75% for each of the next 5 years. A congresscritter retiring after 10 years would get 16.25% of pay. Every year after that is worth an additional 2%. That makes retirement after 20 years worth 36.25 percent of whatever their base pay is. The retirement pay is less with the new system.
There's the problem with the internet. It's the old "heard it from someone, who heard it from someone, who heard it from someone", but the "fact" originators are anonymous and the written word is
written, just like in textbooks.
