Yeah the Carpenter remake was one of my all time favorite "creature features." The latest one does a good job of paying homage to John Carpenter's version. I thought it was a good intro...when the DVD comes out I'm going to watch them back to back.

As for one of the scariest from my childhood...that one (although I'm slightly ashamed to admit it) goes to the original Phantasm....most notably, the last minute.

Other horror greats from that time frame would have to include The Omen and the Exorcist.
