If you're entering Israel, you're asked about your travel plans upon entering and if planning on traveling on to any Arab countries, your passport won't be stamped by Israeli customs. A passport-sized slip of paper will be stamped and added for use while in Israel and removed when presenting your passport upon crossing from Israel into Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, etc. as you won't be allowed transit with an Israeli stamp. An exception is when passing into Palestinian territory (e.g., Bethlehem) - thus far bus loads of tourist $$ trumps theistic ideology there.
