Patton was harsh, vulgar, and realistic. He pulled no punches.
When sending men in to battle, he knew that many would not come back; he also knew that superior support was the only way to ensure that the greatest number of men came out alive.
He did not enjoy the death from combat, but knew that only audacious assaults could lead to a far earlier end to the war than his superiors realized.
He drove hard and fast toward Berlin, as he knew the fall of that capital and/or the killing of Hitler would end the war.
He was no megalomaniac; he was simpy a realist.
