I think there can be many situations it would be the RIGHT thing to do. It is a very fine line though. At some point, a commander would have to make the decision to stand by his principles and morality with the possibilty of court martial, or decide to obey what is actually a lawful order. One has to wonder how many times commanders have fought with this in their own minds. An example would be Gen. Tibbets when he dropped the bombs on Japan. Knowing what death and destruction they would cause, how did he wrestle with that dilemma?
