Trivia....blood wings go back to WW2 but they were not associated with pinning.
Legs were jealous of the Paratrooper uniform, bloused boots, Wings ets...so in a bar fight they'd try and rip your wings off your blouse.
Smart Paratroopers would sharpen the wings around the edges to knife edge and the guy trying to pull them off would slice his fingers up....Blood Wings. Got that at the 509th Assoc reunion from a bunch of the WW2 guys...the first deployed ABN unit to England...that's where it originated.
