I think the Korean(s) North & South can be compared to the two Germany's. With some reservations.

The Good:

The surrounding countries are NOT the Eastern EU, Neither Politically or Financially.
They do not have the religious problems of the Balkans.
The Peoples Republic of China is not Russia. In PRC's march to be the World Capitalist of choice, they will not tolerate NK playing games.
Republic of China & Japan are likely to join PRC in stepping on NK.

The Bad:

All of the above...
The Republic of Korea is keenly aware of the follies & foibles the Germany's are still struggling with. They want reconciliation, but not at the expense of their economy..

I am not saying that NOTHING will happen,, But I think the "locals" are far more active, financially involved, politically astute, and genuinely concerned than anything the Eastern EU crowd did.
