I think the Korean(s) North & South can be compared to the two Germany's. With some reservations.

The Good:
  • The surrounding countries are NOT the Eastern EU, Neither Politically or Financially.
  • They do not have the religious problems of the Balkans.
  • The Peoples Republic of China is not Russia. In PRC's march to be the World Capitalist of choice, they will not tolerate NK playing games.
  • Republic of China & Japan are likely to join PRC in stepping on NK.

The Bad:
  • All of the above...
  • The Republic of Korea is keenly aware of the follies & foibles the Germany's are still struggling with. They want reconciliation, but not at the expense of their economy..

I am not saying that NOTHING will happen,, But I think the "locals" are far more active, financially involved, politically astute, and genuinely concerned than anything the Eastern EU crowd did.
