For all of you around in the early 80s when all this started........

"The red-cockaded woodpecker, an endangered bird whose finicky nesting habits have blocked road projects and hindered Army training for years, appears to be thriving on Fort Bragg. ................"

Just about the only reason the bird survived in the area was because of the large expanse of pines on Ft Bragg. Tree huggers in the 80s darn near shut training down on most of Ft Bragg.

80 year old pines? Hogwash! Go out 87/24 out of Spring Lake and you'll see tons of "Marked Area" pines in 30 to 40 year old stands.

Anybody remember the picture of the Engineers that built an obstacle with some marked logs?

Oh, that went over well in the paper at the time.
