IMO, 'proof' would require some sort of evidence demonstrating that were it not for Chicago's gun ban, the specific acts violence discussed in the OP would have been less.

The proof of fail is that guns are still available to criminals even though prohibited by law. Such laws are sold as a means to reduce or eliminate crimes committed with the prohibited device. The opposite is proven when all cities with de facto bans on firearms also own the highest rates of violent crime committed with firearms.
