Seeing as this is in "a militant strong hold", I agree with Richard.

Killing to sway the locals is common in areas that are not controlled by the Taliban. They use individual & mass murders to get the attention of the recalcitrant non-believers. AKA: The suicide bomber yesterday at the wedding.

But to grab a 7 YO kid from one of "your team" would suggest that there is something else. If the parents were spies the complete family would be dead.

Maybe the kid was going to tell all about the imam who was shagging him in the sheep shed?
