Intermediate Rounds

Over the course of a few IPSC shoots, I've had the opportunity to test out a number of so-called intermediate rounds meant to bridge the gap between existing classifications. This appears to be a quickly-growing category, including notables like the 5.7x28mm SS190 and 9x39mm SP-6 plus loads of less successful offerings in the vein of H&K's 4.6x30mm DM11. In all honesty, it's my own amateur opinion that these represent a poor military investment, as all but the best seem to offer little advantage over conventional cartridges and would entail a much larger acquisition cost per unit (not to mention the lack of inter-changeability in action), but obviously I'm not the expert here. What I'd like to know is if anyone on this site has made extensive use of intermediates or, better yet, has access to combat reports detailing their effectiveness.

Many thanks.
