Bullets 1, 5, and 6 are incredible points of advice.

"Watch how you talk to [your spouse] ... "
In reflection, so frequent can I recall where I've treated a sincere stranger with more compassion than my SO. And the SO puts up with much more and provides more support than any stranger... humbling.

"When you make a commitment to spend time ... "
I've blown off "nights" with the SO due to work-induced exhaustion or work itself - yet I've been sore when the same was done to me and my response was "I don't care." Again, unfortunately chord-striking.

"Keep in touch ... "
This one is probably the only one I know how to use well. I've come to learn how happy it makes the lady when I simply show gratitude for her effort - from thoughtful notes to kisses on the cheek in front of the others. Well said.

In Martin's "GET SELECTED!" he touches on how the SF decision must be a family decision; I think Ms. Smith does well to expand and advise on "keeping your family while in SF". I know for a fact that my SO is a significant source of support for what I do.

Great post.
